JLO History

As of 2023, Junior League of Olympia is celebrating 30 years!

Junior League of Olympia (JLO) started out as a service league in 1986 but became an official Junior League in April of 1993 with the Association of Junior Leagues International.

In 1997 our focus in the community shifted to prevention of child abuse. Before our focus specifically shifted to children, JLO contributed within the community with projects such as Woman to Woman, a project on the issues of women and alcohol and recorded tapes for the Adult Basic Education Program at South Puget Sound Community College.

To help children within our community, Junior League of Olympia focused on projects like Kid’s on the Block, a children’s puppet show about anti bullying; collaborated with the Olympia Hand’s on Children’s Museum by creating an exhibit, and by participating with this class for teen parents. JLO also has created an endowment fund scholarship at SPSCC and sponsored multiple playgrounds within the community. We’ve also funded numerous drives for community partners focusing on the prevention of child abuse and the emotional and social wellbeing of children within our community.

Junior League of Olympia Helped implement the Monarch Children’s Justice Center and Advocacy Center, a founding sponsor of Little Red School House, and adoption of a community program The Mockingbird Respite Program. Through the respite program the League focused on improving the current and future lives of children who depend on the foster care/group home system in our community.
